Professional Book Editing Services

The Fresh Ink Group offers two levels of professional book editing services to the public: Line Editing/Proofreading, and Copy Editing. It is not necessary to publish with us to avail yourself of our editing services.

Line Editing/Proofreading

Line editing corrects grammar, punctuation, basic syntax, and unintentional mistakes (typos). The editor does not evaluate content quality, but rather limits corrections to the minimum required for clarity. Where the author intentionally violates the rules of grammar to achieve a particular narrative style, the editor will correct only for consistency and typos.

A hand-marked red-ink copy of your printed manuscript or bookblock will show all changes, and may include occasional explanatory notes or questions the author should address. For files submitted in Microsoft Word, the author may request input of the changes with "tracking on" at no additional cost. Line Editing/Proofreading does not include design services such as the creation of a print-ready bookblock.

The rate for Line Editing/Proofreading is $0.0075 per submitted word. Sections, chapters, short stories, essays/articles, or even single pages may be submitted. If the material requires more than Line Editing to become publication-ready, the author will be contacted to discuss option before revision commences.

Copy Editing

Copy Editing is more intensive than Line Editing. It also includes evaluation of the material's organization, format, narrative consistency, completeness, and other elements required for clarity. Copy Editing services include Proofreading after changes are input.

A hand-marked red-ink copy of your printed double-spaced manuscript showing all changes may include typed insertions and rewrites on separate pages. Quality Copy Editing sometimes requires the author to provide additional material and/or make choices about significant changes. For files submitted in Microsoft Word, the author may request input of the changes with "tracking on" at no additional cost.

The Rate for Copy Editing is $0.025 per submitted word. The rate for optional Bookblock Design/Layout including creation of a distilled publication-ready PDF is $0.005 per word. Only entire works or works-in-progress with outline or synopsis are accepted for Copy Editing. The first edited chapter or equivalent portion will be returned for author approval before editing continues.

Payment

50% is due in advance. The balance is due upon completion. Payments is accepted in cash, check, money order, postal order, cashier's check, or PayPal.
